Mr √ came out of his stonemason’s workshop in the Saint Martin prison on the Ile de Ré, in order to inaugurate the “mast of peace”.
A windmill is stuck at the top of the mast, the base of which has been carved by prisoners with words of peace. A picture of Gandhi has been slipped underneath the carved base.
Mr √ talked to a party of high school teenagers and helped them to erect the mast and the windmill, as their way to symbolize a dynamic and progress-bearing wind.
The work is the land of those encounters and exchanges beyond walls and gates.
